In the world of sad girl music lies artists like Phoebe Bridgers, Gracie Abrams, and Holly Humberstone, but Avery Lynch has made her way into the scene.
As the newest member of the singer-songwriter genre, she has released her new album Friction that’s filled with heart wrenching lyrics that can easily remind you of a not-so-happy past.
Starting off her album with the song, “useless information” you can quickly catch onto the break up theme.
Through her melancholy lyrics, she expresses the difficulty of moving on from someone you cared so much about that you digested everything about them, yet as time goes by you can’t seem to give it all up.
At the end of a relationship you are left with the seeds of their habits planted, but missing the ability to continue growing with them, therefore becoming useless information.
Her lyrics are easy to unwind while holding personal and intimate emotions that one would never know were accessible to anyone other than themselves.
Lynch’s music can make people feel seen as they hear her put into words the emotional encounters that they may have spent ages trying to decipher on their own, but finally having someone to map them out.
It’s comforting to know that others have felt the same way, and listening to Lynch’s album can feel like unpacking those confusing and unfortunate feelings that arise when losing someone that once meant so much.
She focuses on almost every stage of a breakup you can think of, even the events that lead up to it.
From breaking your neck while trying to restore the relationship and not seeing the same effort reciprocated in, “Didn’t Show Up,” to uncovering the built up frustration that evidently consumes you in the song, “Not Angry.”
This album feels like Lynch has stolen your diary and found a beautiful way to put your own experiences into songs that you can peacefully listen to, but also viciously sob over.
A great mix if you ask me, and you can experience her music live on Dec. 8 at the Parish at House of Blues in Anaheim, CA.
Down below is also her YouTube channel that’s filled with music videos and vlogs that allows her audience get to know her even more than what is disclosed in her songwriting.
