Gracie abrams beats “sophomore slump” with The secret of us
Despite her famous parents, Gracie Abrams quickly carved her path to stardom with her unique blend of relatability and indie pop. Her slow rise to fame began after her first EP, minor, was released in 2020. Her track “ I miss you, I’m sorry” gained attention from many worldwide, including renowned singer-songwriter Taylor Swift.
Abrams’ career reached new heights when she opened for Swift during the US leg of the Eras Tour in 2023. This Fall, she is set to close out the tour with Swift, a testament to her meteoric rise in popularity and the recognition she has long deserved.
The Secret of Us is her second studio album. This follows the release of Good Riddance in February of 2023.

In the music industry, there’s a common belief that an artist’s second studio album often falls short of the brilliance of their first. However, Abrams defies this notion with her latest album, The Secret of Us.
The singles were immediate hits and quickly went viral on social media platforms. “Close to You,” the album’s second single, helped Abrams chart in the Billboard Hot 100, earning a spot at #49, this being her first song to ever make it.
In contrast to Good Riddance, this new album has a lighter feather-like vibe to it. The cover, with its yellow and white tones, indicate that The Secret of Us would be a piece in which we can see a happier side of hers. Most of her past writing was full of insecurity and heartbreak, these new songs present us with a Gracie that’s more positive and optimistic. Don’t be fooled, hidden throughout the album we can find hints of heart wrenching lyrics.
The fourth track, “I Love You, I’m Sorry,” brings back nostalgia with it being a reference to her first EP. This song reflects on a past relationship and being haunted by the memories and flaws of both parties.
Overall this album explores the complexity of emotions as you continue to grow and mature. Through her writing, Abrams manages to immerse the listener and go through all the emotions she went through in real time.
